Homework plays an important role in learning English. If you have lots of homework to do after your English class, or if you have difficulties doing it, there are certain strategies that you can try out.
- Create a homework space
It seems obvious, but it’s very important to have a designated space for doing the homework. It should be equipped with a desk, a comfortable chair, and any stationary and supplies that you might need. The space should also be a quiet one with proper lighting. This will help you focus on the task and avoid distractions.
- Manage your time
Set deadlines and time limits for doing your homework. You can even use your own homework timer. This doesn’t mean, however, that you can’t spend a bit more time on an ESL project or a homework assignment if you need to. The time limits are just guidelines that will motivate you to be more productive.
- Plan for something enjoyable to do
If you have something to look forward to after you finish your homework, you will be more motivated to do it. For example, you could plan to watch a movie or listen to your favourite radio program after doing all of the homework as a kind of treat.
- Setting up a routine
Creating healthy habits is very helpful. This is also true for doing your homework. Setting up a homework schedule and routine is a good study habit that will make homework easier and improve your time management skills.
- Decide on what homework to do first
You can design your own system. You can start with the easiest homework that takes the least amount of time. After that, you can move on to the more difficult exercises. That way you’ll be able to accomplish more tasks. This tip is particularly useful for ESL learners who have difficulties with finishing all of the assigned homework.
